Greene earns first collegiate win

Kirsten Greene of Gloucester picked up her first collegiate win as the Norfolk State University softball team defeated Cleveland State University, 6-5, in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday.

Greene entered the game in top of a second-inning jam staring at a 4-0 deficit. She pitched six innings of relief ball, giving up only one run while striking out five batters. From inning two through six, Greene pitched shutout ball to allow the Spartans time to make a comeback.

NSU took a 5-4 lead with a two-run fifth inning but Cleveland State scored in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 5-5. The Spartans pushed a run across in the bottom of the seventh to win in walk-off fashion.
