Green leaving Gloucester to be Williamsburg assessor

Gloucester County Assessor Derek Green announced this week that he will be leaving his post with the county to become the assessor for the City of Williamsburg. His last day in Gloucester is Sept. 20 and he will begin his new position Sept. 24.

Green took the position as county assessor in Gloucester in July 2012. At that time, he said he faced numerous challenges, including a lack of staff, software changes and no standard operating procedure in place for department staff. Since that time, he has brought the number of those who appeal their reassessment down drastically.

“My family and I are very excited about this opportunity to serve this historic city government,” Green said. “Gloucester  truly has been the best professional experience and quite frankly a privilege thus far in my career.”

He said he would be forever grateful to Gloucester County for providing him “this fantastic opportunity to serve this wonderful community.”
