Grants available for Main Street businesses

The Main Street Preservation Trust has opened applications for 2015 for any property or business owner along Gloucester’s Main Street to apply for one of three types of matching grants to improve their buildings. Application deadline is 3 p.m. Thursday, April 30.

In all, the MSPT plans to award grants totaling a maximum of $80,000 this year, said Jenny Crittenden, the organization’s executive director. The target area is from Main Street Center to the court circle.

For façade improvements, grants are available up to $20,000 on matching improvements, Crittenden said, and the grant is a 50/50, dollar for dollar, match. Façade improvements can include windows, doors, awnings, landscaping, exterior painting, exterior signage, site work, and roofs where they are seen from Main Street.
