Grant money used to purchase patrol car cameras

Mathews County Sheriff’s Office recently received a 2018 Byrne/Justice Assistance Grant for $17,970 from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services for equipment and technology. The grant has been used to purchase six in-car cameras.

According to a press release from the office of Gov. Ralph Northam, more than $6 million in grant funding was awarded to localities, nonprofit organizations and state agencies throughout Virginia for various programs.

In addition to equipment, technology and training for law enforcement, the funding went to school safety training, services for child victims of abuse and neglect, services for victims of sexual and domestic violence, and programs that serve at-risk youth and promote family engagement. ...
