Thomas Hunter Middle School has received a $500 grant from the Foundation for Impact on Literacy and Learning and Albertsons Companies Foundation’s Nourishing Neighbors to help combat hunger due to food insecurity in the community as part of the Explore.Act.Tell program.
Explore.Act.Tell. is a free project-based learning program that teaches sixth through 12th grade students to understand and combat food insecurity in their community.
Recognizing the growing need for food and essentials in the community, students wanted to take action to support those experiencing homelessness, a release from the organization stated. They decided that by each contributing a single non-perishable item, they could collectively assemble enough supplies to create breakfast bags for a local homeless outreach program. The students set a goal of preparing and distributing 100 bags, demonstrating how small individual contributions can make a meaningful impact when combined.
