Grand opening Sunday for Cobbs Creek fire station

The Mathews Volunteer Fire Department will hold a grand opening and 50th anniversary celebration for Station 4 beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday. The public is invited to attend. The new station is located on Buckley Hall Road across from the industrial park at Cobbs Creek.

The keynote speaker for the event will be Rappahannock Volunteer Fire Association President Scott Titus. Del. Keith Hodges (R-Middlesex) will be the guest speaker.

Station Captain Danny Howlett said that MVFD President Calvin Morgan will welcome guests and deliver opening remarks. He will also recognize department members, while Howlett will share the history of Station 4.

Station 4 junior members will raise the flag, and Harry Doyle will sing the National Anthem. The Rev. Jim Ritter, a charter member of the station, will deliver the opening prayer and will bless the new station.
