Grammy winner

Northern Neck Orchestra Music Director Michael Repper and the New York Youth Symphony won a Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance on Sunday for their recording of music by Florence Price, Jessie Montgomery and Valerie Coleman on Avie Records. The initial idea for the album and its further development occurred while Repper was on retreat in the Northern Neck during the early months of the Covid pandemic. He gave a presentation on the recording on its release date last year at Good Luck Cellars in Kilmarnock. Repper will conduct the Northern Neck Orchestra on March 25 in a performance of Florence Price’s “Symphony No. 1” and Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 5.” The concert at the Northumberland High School Auditorium in Heathsville will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be preceded by a pre-concert talk by Repper at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $40 and may be purchased at the door or online at www.northernneckorchestra.org.
