Grace Thomas Owens, 87, of Grafton, Virginia, died on Thursday, September 15, 2016, after a long illness, at Commonwealth Assisted Living Gloucester House, Gloucester, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by the father of her children, Clarence S. Evans; her parents, Olivia and Dewey Thomas; her siblings, Edith Brown, Ethel Constance and Franklin Thomas.
She is survived by her loving husband, Alfred Owens; her faithful children, Dewey W. Evans and Virginia A. Evans of Gloucester, Kenneth T. Evans and Nan R. Evans of Hayes, Virginia, and Paul C. Evans and Vicki Evans of Newport News, Virginia. She also leaves four grandchildren, C. Blair Evans, Andrew T. Evans, Joshua P. Evans and Rebecca Gilliam and three great-grandchildren, Macie Evans, Leah Evans and Peyton Gilliam.
The family wishes to extend special thanks and gratitude for all the employees and staff at the Gloucester House Assisted Living and Palliative Care Units. You treated us as your family and loved Grace as we did. We could not have asked for more.
A memorial service conducted by Pastor Bill West was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2016, in the chapel of Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. The family received friends from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home. A graveside service followed at Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton, Virginia.
