Governor’s transportation plan includes Gloucester road improvements

Gov. Bob McDonnell’s proposed transportation project list for "Virginia’s Road to the Future" includes some funds for several Gloucester County improvements.

The 2013 funding proposal includes $735,963 for the replacement of the bridge on Route 662 (Allmondsville Road) over Fox Creek and $728,460 for unpaved road improvements.

Kelly Hannon, a spokesman for the Virginia Department of Transportation, said Tuesday that the Fox Creek Bridge would require a total of $1.6 million as currently proposed. The bridge replacement is in the design phase, she said, with right-of-way acquisition and construction to follow. The proposed timeline is for bridge construction to begin in 2017 and be completed in 2018.

The 75-year-old bridge is "structurally deficient and functionally obsolete," Hannon said. The two-lane bridge has a timber deck and steel beams, Hannon said, and is 93 feet long and 20 feet wide.
