GORDON LEE JOHNSON

Gordon Lee Johnson of Newport News, left this earth on Saturday, March 2, 2013, after a courageous fight with pulmonary fibrosis.

Born July 31, 1947, Gordon was a lifelong resident of Newport News and Gloucester.

Gordon lived his life to serve God by doing for others. He gave ceaselessly of his time and many talents. Gordon was an avid builder of cars, trucks, furniture, and just about anything, including his beloved log home and shop in Gloucester.

His wonderful smile and easy going spirit will sorely be missed. Gordon also loved his church family and his time spent with the Liberty Baptist Builders.

Gordon was thankful for the life he lived, had no regrets, and was at peace with God. His time on earth was too short for those left behind.

Gordon was preceded in death by his father, Samuel M. Johnson, and his first wife, Cheryle B. Johnson.

He leaves behind his wife of 10 years, Brenda Johnson. He is also survived by his loving children, Jeremiah Johnson, Stephanie Kalantarians, her husband Narbe, and their son Emmit Lee; as well as his step-children, Mark, Travis, and Jennifer Phillips; his mother, Fannie W. Johnson; three sisters, Gaile Bagheri, Debbie Harrison, Nancy Lamb, and their spouses; 13 nieces and nephews; 13 great-nieces and -nephews; a large extended family, and all of his church family at Liberty Baptist.

The family would especially like to thank his wonderful caregivers at the Hampton VA Medical Center, as well as his special caregiver Tom. You all allowed this process to be made with dignity and love.

The family asks that any memorial donations be made to the Liberty Baptist Builders or The Palliative Care Program at the Hampton VA Medical Center.

The family will receive friends and family from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013, at W.J. Smith and Son Funeral Home, Newport News.

Service will be held on Friday, March 8, at 11 a.m. at Liberty Baptist Church in Hampton, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his life. Burial will take place at 3 p.m. in Rosewell Memorial Gardens in Gloucester.
