Gordon begins work as new head of Mathews Social Services

Tiffany Gordon of Gloucester was recently appointed to serve as director of the Mathews County Department of Social Services.

Gordon said she is excited about the new position, which has been a lifelong career goal for her.

“I have always wanted to be a local director in a small community,” said Gordon. “Mathews is a wonderful community—close and tight-knit, with people who help their own. It’s exciting for me.”

Gordon described the staff of Mathews Social Services as caring, hard-working and compassionate.

While she will eventually develop a strategic plan, for now Gordon’s main goals are to get to know the community, the Social Services board and staff; familiarize herself with the budget; and “immerse (herself) in the culture.” Having spent much of her career in child welfare, she said she is interested in learning more about benefit programs in general.
