GOP ticket

All three Republican candidates for statewide office were in Gloucester this past weekend to take part in a rally on Saturday afternoon at the Gloucester Institute. Gloucester Institute founder and board chair Kay Coles James, standing at right, welcomed (from left) Virginia attorney general candidate Jason Miyares, lieutenant governor hopeful Winsome Sears and gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin to Holly Knoll at Cappahosic, the retirement home of the late Dr. Robert Russa Moton, civil rights leader and president of the Tuskegee Institute. Legend has it that the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote parts of his “I Have a Dream” speech while sitting outside this home looking out on the York River, and all three candidates alluded to the slain civil rights leader in their remarks to those gathered at Holly Knoll’s front porch. The event was sponsored by the Gloucester County Republican Committee.
