Good news for broadband projects in Mathews

The Mathews Broadband Advisory Board heard some good news during Tuesday’s monthly meeting about local broadband projects that are underway.

Broadband Board vice chairman Willie Love said that Breezeline (formerly Atlantic Broadband) had reported that the VATI grant-funded project has been expanded. Originally slated to bring broadband to 402 new customers in Mathews, the program will now include 60 additional customers at no cost to the county, Love said. In addition, Breezeline has released the addresses that will be served by the $4.2 million project, which was originally slated to provide service to 1,249 homes and businesses in four counties—Mathews, Caroline, Lancaster and Middlesex.

“It’s an exciting time,” said board chair Judy Rowe. “Now we can let people know the exact addresses.”
