GMHS makes ‘Great Paws’ fundraising pivot

In response to COVID-19 and out of an abundance of caution, Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society is canceling all large events until spring 2021, including the fall 2020 oyster roast and the January 2021 gala and auction.

“The GMHS leadership team and Development Committee have carefully considered our two largest fundraisers, the annual oyster roast and auction, and believe it is in the best interest of guests, volunteers and staff to modify our approach to the events,” said Steve Bland, president of the GMHS Board of Directors. “Without sharing too many details just yet, we are excited to announce ‘The Great Paws,’ GMHS’s fundraising pivot in response to COVID-19.”

The need to raise funds to save and transforms the lives of homeless pets continues despite a pandemic. “The Great Paws” will preserve the health and well-being of everyone involved while generating the funds necessary to fulfill the shelter’s lifesaving mission, a GMHS release stated.
