After their 16-year-old daughter Cheyenne began volunteering at the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, Dave and Autumn Lowey decided they wanted to, as well. “They have definitely, quickly gotten involved with the shelter,” said GMHS Volunteer and Events Coordinator Voula Douglerakis. “And it’s great they’re doing it as a family.” Now 17, Cheyenne has gotten her family involved in fostering kittens, transporting animals to other shelters, and even mowing the lawn. “We really needed someone to cut the grass and he was all for it,” said Douglerakis about Dave who brings in his own lawnmower and gas for the job. Having a well-cut lawn is not only for aesthetic purposes, but also serves as a way to keep dogs healthy when going for walks. “Just to lessen the chance of bringing back ticks,” said Dave.
