From now through Jan. 31, any monetary donations made to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society will be eligible to be matched by two anonymous donors up to $75,000. The cost to provide essential medical care for shelter pets is $311,555 annually and $25,962 monthly, according to a release from GMHS. This includes life-saving treatments, diagnostics, food, formula and the utilities to keep the facility warm, safe and fully operational. These resources also support the GMHS Pet Pantry, which helps local families facing hardship keep their pets fed and at home. Monetary donations can be made by mail to GMHS at P.O. Box 385, Gloucester, Va. 23061 or online at gmhumanesociety.org/donate. While only monetary gifts are eligible for the match, GMHS would also appreciate in-kind donations such as pet food, treats, toys and supplies, as well as donations of stocks, bonds, IRA distributions and wire transfers.
