Gloucester’s own "Danny Claus" has been named as grand marshal of this year’s Citizen’s Christmas and Holiday Parade, which will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7 along Main Street.

Most know Danny Joyce and his family for their Crany Creek Drive holiday lights display. However, Joyce’s community service is what has earned him the honor of taking such a large part in this year’s parade.

Joyce and his family have hosted the miraculous display of lights for about 15 years. They have collected over 85 tons of food during those years.

"We do it because we love to do it," Joyce said. "And if we can help somebody out in the process, then that’s even better."

He emphasized he could not have done it all on his own, and cited his family, especially his son J.J. for hours upon hours of help in setting up the lights display. Danny said volunteers with various community and school organizations have helped over the years, as well.
