Gloucester’s Oasis Books to remain open year round

Oasis Books, located on Gloucester’s Main Street, will offer expanded inventory, open for more days each week and remain open year round instead of seasonally, beginning March 10.

Kip Mortensen, who owns the shop with his wife Odette, said that they kept hearing complaints about people trying to stop by to browse and shop when they were closed. So they decided to operate the store throughout the year, instead of taking entire seasons off and will now be open Tuesday through Saturday.

Not only will they be open more often, Mortensen said, but they have hired some help to better serve customers, recently bringing on Virginia Everett of Gloucester as the shop manager.

Mortensen said the store sells fine used books. It opened in October 2013 and now stocks more than 12,000 volumes, 98 percent of them hardcover.
