Gloucester’s All-Star season drawing to a close

With only one tournament to go, Gloucester Youth Baseball’s summer All-Star season is drawing to a close.The season saw Gloucester’s young athletes return to the field to compete in a handful of tournaments following a year off due to COVID-19.

Gloucester Youth Baseball and Softball president Brian Eamigh said the Babe Ruth Team won the Virginia District 1 Tournament which was hosted by Gloucester over Fourth of July weekend. The Babe Ruth Team consists of 13- and 14-year-old athletes but played against teams of 15-year-olds.

“Due to no other leagues in the local district having a 14-year-old team members, they played in the District 1 15-year-old tournament,” said Eamigh, “and they showed the other teams from the Hampton Roads area that although they were younger they were still the team to beat.”

The Babe Ruth Team then played in the state tournament on July 16 in Manassas but was eliminated by the eventual second-place winner Arlington.
