Gloucester youth teams advance to state playoffs

 

Two teams from Gloucester Youth Baseball and Softball will take to the diamond in the state playoffs this year. The Boys 13-15 Baseball team and the Girls 10U Softball team bring differing approaches to their contests, but both will be looking to make a run.

10U Girls

For the girls, coaches Di and Ryan Cookson credit quality pitching and above average defensive play for the team’s success. One of the team’s ace pitchers, Autumn Cookson, logged 12 strikeouts in her last game while only allowing two walks.

The team is looking to bounce back from a tough loss to Glen Allen which saw the Gloucester girls come up just short in a 3-2 contest. They stood a good chance to take a lead before an untimely base-running error cost them momentum and a scoring opportunity.

“We have to execute and try to eliminate mental mistakes,” said Ryan Cookson, who began the team’s Monday night practice with extra offensive work for early-arriving players.
