The 12U All Stars softball team of Gloucester Youth Baseball & Softball returned home Sunday night following its trip to the Babe Ruth World Series in Florence, Alabama. The team played a total of nine games in a span of six days with the heat index ranging from 105-112 degrees Fahrenheit. Gloucester was awarded the Babe Ruth World Series Sportsmanship Award for its outstanding character and sportsmanship demonstrated throughout the tournament. On the first day of the tournament, Gloucester fell to Stillwater, 7-3. They then tied with Olton, 4-4, on the second tournament day. Gloucester fell to Mexico, 11-7, after gaining an early 7-0 lead. During day three, they also fell to Florence, 7-3, after an early 3-0 lead. Gloucester fell to Olton, 5-1, on the first day of championship play. The team was eventually eliminated from championship play by Stillwater later that same day. Following these two losses, Gloucester was relegated to the Diamond bracket.
