Gloucester Youth Football, cheerleading news as teams start a new season

The Gloucester Red Knights traveled to Poquoson Middle School to face the Back River Panthers, while the Gloucester Grey Knights played host to the York-Seaford Bulldogs on Saturday to open the 2018 Gloucester Youth Football season.

RED MINI MITES: The Red Mini Mites, coached by Brian Kurtz, downed Back River, 31-6. Quarterback Jamison Miller passed for two touchdowns, one to Derek Jones and one to Hunter Elias. Gavin Skay had two rushing touchdowns and Kaiden Williams had one. Jackson Scalf and company tallied 15 flag pulls on defense. Standout cheerleaders were Bailey Hoover, Aubrey Dabney, Elin Scearce and Mayleigh Bond.

RED MIGHTY MITES: The Red Mighty Mites, coached by Charles Murrell, beat Back River, 13-0. Jaiden Long led the offense with 70 yards and an extra point, Tyler Hawkey had 29 yards and a touchdown and Mekhi Ward had 22 yards and a TD.
