Gloucester Youth Baseball gets makeover

A small army of out-of-town volunteers descended on the Gloucester Youth Baseball fields Monday for a major renovation project that included upgrading playing surfaces, improving existing bullpen mounds and repairing the bleachers and backstop.

GYB won the makeover in an annual contest sponsored by the Norfolk Tides Baseball Club and its Tides Youth Baseball Fund. This is the fifth year the Tides have renovated a Hampton Roads area youth field, and GYB received 4,700 online votes this year to win over seven other youth fields competing for the makeover.

“We are excited to lend a helping hand to the people of Gloucester, as they displayed an overwhelming outpouring of support to rally around this cause,” said Tides General Manager Joe Gregory in a release.

“This is a community project that our entire staff looks forward to every year, and we can’t wait to do our part in giving the children in Gloucester a field they can be proud of,” Gregory said.
