A Gloucester man took his own life after allegedly shooting his estranged wife at their home Tuesday afternoon. She survived and remained hospitalized in stable condition on Wednesday, according to Sgt. Diane Smith of the Gloucester Sheriff’s Office.
GSO Capt. John Schick Jr. said his office received a wireless 911 call at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday reporting a woman had been shot. The caller reported hearing several gunshots on Marshall Way off Beasley Drive and encountering his neighbor who was bleeding and indicating she had been shot.
Schick said Catherine Raper, 58, told responding deputies that she had been shot in the arm by her estranged husband, 60-year-old Walter Raper. Deputies secured the scene to allow emergency responders to transport the victim to an area nearby where she could be airlifted to the hospital.
