Gloucester woman dies following Rt. 17 accident

A Gloucester woman died last week as a result of injuries sustained in a Sept. 7 single-vehicle crash on Route 17, according to the Virginia State Police. Louise T. Horsley, 95, died Sept. 9 at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
State police spokesman Corinne Geller said Janice F. Horsley, 61, of Gloucester was driving a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis south on Route 17 when she ran off the right side of the road less than a mile north of T.C. Walker Road.

The vehicle then struck a fence, a utility pole, a highway sign and a private sign.

Geller said the driver was not injured in the crash but the elder Horsley, a front-seat passenger, was transported to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Both were wearing seat belts.

Janice Horsley was charged with reckless driving, Geller said, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

This was the third traffic fatality in Gloucester in 2014. ...
