Gloucester woman dies following Route 17 accident

A 30-year-old Gloucester woman died after a single vehicle accident on Route 17 near Gloucester Court House Tuesday night. Julia Blair Moore of Village Woods Road was the sole occupant of a vehicle that overturned and caught fire at about 11:16 p.m.

Moore was driving a white Chevy Trailblazer southbound on Route 17 when she ran off the left side of the road just north of Fox Mill Centre, according to 1st Sgt. Caren Sterling of the Area 33 Virginia State Police Office. Sterling said the vehicle struck the embankment, overturned and caught on fire.

Moore was transported to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital where she later died of her injuries. She was wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident, Sterling said, and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

This is the first traffic fatality in Gloucester for 2013.
