Gloucester wins praise for its 2017 reassessment

Gloucester County’s real estate assessment department received special statewide recognition recently for its 2017 reassessment. According to county assessor Derek Green, he and his team were recognized by the Virginia Association of Assessing Officers. Green also successfully passed all the steps and has obtained the AAS (Assessment Administrative Specialist) designation from the International Association of Assessing Officers.

According to Green, the VAAO recognition came in its quarterly newsletter and mentioned his and his staff’s successful execution of the latest reassessment, which took effect Jan. 1. The newsletter stated, “The reassessment’s 1.4 percent increase in overall property values was met with only 11 official appeals, down from 160 appeals in 2015, and a substantial reduction from 2006, when appeals in Gloucester reached 4,000.”
