Gloucester Visitor Center receives new roof

The Gloucester Visitor Information Center on court green circle was scheduled to receive a new roof this week, weather permitting.

Tourism coordinator Hilton Snowdon said Monday that he expected the roof job to take two days. He planned to close the center this Monday and Tuesday, but work got bumped back a day with Monday’s downpours, so the center was scheduled to be closed at least through yesterday.

The roof will include installation of gutters that are architecturally correct for the court green, Snowdon said.

Cedar Bush Construction of Gloucester, headed by David Lee Williams, was in charge of the roof project. Cost of the roof work was more than $30,000.

Snowdon said interior work is planned at the center in late fall and early next winter. That work, estimated to cost approximately $20,000, will include re-plastering, painting and other enhancements.
