Gloucester track hosts Class 5 Region A meet

The Gloucester High School track and field team hosted the VHSL Class 5 Region A championship on Friday and Saturday, with seven GHS athletes/relay teams qualifying for the state tournament.

Additionally, 25 personal records and three school records were set by the Dukes, with Gloucester boys finishing sixth and the girls finishing ninth out of 15 schools.

Ainsley Miller set a personal and school record winning the girls’ pole vault with a 10’03”, while Joshua Shackelford, who has committed to compete for William and Mary, was the regional champion in the 800m run with a time of 1:56.16, both a personal and school record. Shackelford would also compete on the boys’ 4x800 relay team alongside Conner O’Beirne, Tanner Baker and Aaron Shipe. The relay team finished fourth in the region with a time of 8:11.43, another school record.
