Gloucester to tap fund balance for facility

Gloucester supervisors voted unanimously to use the remaining $2 million for construction of the new transportation and bus maintenance facility with the county fund balance.

In August, bids for construction of the facility, which will be located adjacent to Page Middle School, came in over budget. The need for the facility caused the board to move forward with the project by increasing the funding for it by $2,611,848.

Of the increased funding, $611,848 came from the Gloucester school’s fund balance, which was requested to be reallocated by the schools after going unspent. It was agreed that remaining $2 million be funded during a joint meeting between the supervisors and school board. The source of that money was not decided on until the joint meeting on Nov. 9.
