Gloucester to hold harmful waste collection

Gloucester County will hold its Spring 2014 collection of harmful household waste from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, at the Middle Peninsula Landfill and Recycling Center located at Owl Trap.

The collection is the best way for Gloucester County residents “to rid their homes of hazardous items in a way that is safe for their family, community, and the environment,” said Gloucester Clean Community Coordinator William Bell.

The collection gives residents an opportunity to dispose of automobile hazardous waste such as antifreeze, brake and transmission fluids, gasoline and gasoline mixtures, and automotive and other lead-acid storage batteries.

Also, residents can safely dispose of painting supplies at the April 19 collection, including paints, thinners, solvents, epoxies and wood preservatives. Bell said other items that can be safely disposed of that day include household cleaners, mercury, pool chemicals, and computers and monitors.
