Gloucester to get new supermarket

Aldi, a German-based grocery chain, announced plans to start construction of its first Gloucester store before the end of this year.

Plans filed with Gloucester County show the store will be located off John Hudgins Drive, just north of a free-standing Burger King and south of Starbucks in Fox Mill Centre. Jeff Baehr, an Aldi vice president, did not specify when the store will open.

Information furnished to Gloucester County indicates the store will have approximately 18,850 square feet, with more than 75 parking spaces. Garrey Curry, assistant county administrator, said Wednesday he has met with Aldi representatives but did not know when the store might open on a 1.8-acre site.

Evergreen Development, which owns Fox Mill Centre, sold the property to Aldi for approximately $1.9 million.
