Gloucester teams compete in state tournaments

Fans of Gloucester Youth Baseball and Softball will have to wait until next year to see if their teams can make a run at the Babe Ruth League state title.

The 10U Softball team travelled to Crozet to play at West Albemarle High School. Their first-round matchup was against Montgomery County.

The Gloucester girls made quick work of Montgomery, dispatching them by a score of 13-2 in the 5 o’clock game held July 12.

From there they advanced to play Blacksburg, who eked out a win. A final score of 4-3 sent Gloucester to the bottom bracket, but the girls were not finished yet.

The team turned in a strong performance against Summit Point and kept their title hopes alive, putting up 12 runs in a resounding victory. Unfortunately for the hometown squad, Montgomery County would come out swinging in a rematch from the first round. 

Montgomery won by a score of 3-2.

Both of the teams that defeated the Gloucester girls fell to eventual champion Manassas.
