Gloucester swimmers dominate competition

Gloucester High School swimmers opened the 2017-2018 season on Nov. 27 with dominating performances over Hampton and Phoebus in the Holland Pool at Hampton University.

The GHS boys beat Phoebus, 74-16, and Hampton, 66-22. The Dukes were led by Jason DeGraw who placed first in all four events he entered. Jax Knott, Jacob Raines and Brandon Goddin each had three first-place finishes.

In the boys’ 200 medley relay, DeGraw, Colin Goetz, Raines and Knott were first overall in 1.57.62 and Hunter Emanus, Goddin, Hunter Lumpka and Conner Pham were second in 2.17.57. 

Goddin was first in the 200 yard freestyle in 2.45.75 and Ethan Barefoot-Garcia was second in 2.49.59. DeGraw won the 200 yard individual medley in 2.17.85 and Knox was second in 2.26.15. Raines won the 50 yard freestyle in 24.44. Hunter Lempka was first over the Phoebus swimmer in the 100 yard butterfly in 1.15.97.
