The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday night in the colonial courthouse to discuss a resolution that would allow county staff to submit an application to the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Transportation Alternatives Program. Such support would partly fund a pedestrian/cyclist connection path from Tyndall’s Point Park to Gloucester Point Beach, located across from each other on Route 17. The project received general disapproval from the board.
The estimated cost for the project is $3 million and it is included in the five-year capital improvement plan for fiscal year 2028. The connection trail would measure approximately 1,900 feet in length and eight feet in width.
The trail would allow a path to and from Tyndall’s Point and Gloucester Point Beach, discouraging pedestrians and cyclists from crossing Route 17 to go back and forth.
