Gloucester supervisors reject proposed duplex

The construction of a proposed duplex in the middle of a single-family residential neighborhood off Ware House Road was halted Tuesday night by the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors.

Local contractor Tabb Bridges had petitioned the board to rezone 0.34 of an acre from single to multi-family to construct a duplex near the intersection of Fairview and Edgehill streets. Though the Gloucester Planning Commission recommended approval of the plan during its Nov. 3 meeting, a number of neighboring residents showed up during Tuesday’s public hearing in front of the board of supervisors, voicing strong opposition to the plan.

Anne Coates said she has lived in the neighborhood for 30 years. She said Bridges is a “good man” and a “good builder,” but added, “I don’t know why he decided to come across the street (into this community). As far as I’m concerned, it’s an assault on our neighborhood.”
