Gloucester superintendent sets up teacher, parent advisory groups

School division superintendent Walter R. Clemons has assembled two advisory groups to meet with him regularly to discuss issues and concerns related to Gloucester County Public Schools.

Clemons’s teacher advisory committee includes elementary school teachers Lisa Sheesley, Christy Phillips, Jennifer McSweeney, Carla Stanley, Melissa Shepherd, Melanie Glenn, Cindy Lanning and Jennifer Worrell.

The middle schools are represented by Karen Croxton, Trish Woller and Patty Drake; and Gloucester High School is represented by Mitch Cox and Trisha Riley.

The parent advisory committee includes elementary school parents Melissa Andersen, Stefan Forrest, Shannon Dishman, Susannah Hogge, Cindy Brownley, Stacy Marsh, Megan Powell and Jarrett Lee.

Middle school parents on the committee are Linda Buswell and Cindi Sharp and the high school parents are Kristie Askew and Nancy Yeager.

Clemons will meet with the parent committee quarterly and with the teacher advisory committee on a monthly basis, he told the Gloucester School Board during its June 18 work session at the Walker Education Center. He said the regular meetings will begin in August.

Clemons said that, during recent initial discussions with the groups, the top priority for teachers was compensation. He said both committees wanted to see a good working relationship between the school board and county supervisors so that schools can be funded appropriately.
