After winning the state semifinal match, the Gloucester High School varsity softball team advanced to the Virginia High School League Class 4 State Finals Saturday at Woodgrove High School in Purcellville. The Lady Dukes fell short in the finals, but still boast the state runner-up title. Semifinals On a hot and muggy Friday morning, Gloucester defeated James Wood, 6-2, at Woodgrove. The Lady Dukes had scoring opportunities in the first and second innings, but finally broke through in the fourth. Hannah Horsley opened the inning with a double to the left-field fence. One out later, Alexis Dishman hit a single to score Horsley for a 1-0 lead. Dishman was then tagged out at first base for the second out of the inning. Addison Keister then singled and later scored on a Kyndall Sales triple for a 2-0 lead.
