Gloucester solar project wins DEQ approval

The planned Gloucester County solar facility cleared another regulatory hurdle this week as Strata Solar Development received a permit from the state Department of Environmental Quality to construct and operate the 19.8 megawatt project on Route 14.

The facility, Gloucester Solar LLC, is expected to supply enough electricity to power more than 4,000 homes, according to a news release issued on Monday from Gov. Ralph Northam’s office.

Strata had already received a Conditional Use Permit from Gloucester County to proceed with its plans to construct the solar farm on a 203-acre tract near Toddsbury Lane.

 Ken Day, vice president of the Chapel Hill, North Carolina-based company, had previously stated that once DEQ gave the go-ahead, construction of the solar farm could begin as soon as the spring and be completed by the end of the year.
