Gloucester Senior Center director dismissed

The longtime director of the Gloucester Senior Active Lifestyle Center was dismissed from her job last Friday. An interim center director has been named.

June Meador, who headed the center for 26 years, said Monday that “the word is ‘fired.’” Meador said her dismissal follows more than a month of paid administrative leave, when she was not allowed in the center.

Kathy Vesley-Massey, president of Bay Aging, which operates the Gloucester Center and others elsewhere on the Middle Peninsula, said she could not directly discuss Meador leaving her job because it is “a personnel and personal” matter.

A sign posted on the front door of the center said it is temporarily closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays, days it had been open for years. The center continues to offer meals and programs for seniors on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Vesley-Massey said.
