Gloucester SeaPerch teams fail to place at national competition

Three teams of SeaPerch competitors from Gloucester Public Schools did not return with a trophy but enjoyed their trip to the National SeaPerch Challenge at Louisiana State University In Baton Rouge May 21-23. 

A Gloucester High School team and two teams from Page Middle School earned invitations to the national underwater robotics competition by taking first or second place in the April regional contest. 

The teams received $3,000 from the school division and raised another $10,000 in a GoFundMe campaign along the way to raising the approximately $12,000 they needed to make the trip. 

“The trip went off without a hitch,” said GHS team sponsor Rusty West. “The students had an awesome time staying in the dorms, eating in the dining hall, touring LSU and seeing all the sights.
