Gloucester school board candidates air platforms at forum

Though each candidate running for the Gloucester County School Board is unopposed in the Nov. 5 general election, the four hopefuls took an opportunity to describe their platforms during a Middle Peninsula League of Voters-sponsored forum Sunday afternoon at the Gloucester Library.

Gloucester Point district candidate Troy Andersen said he is a product of the Gloucester County Public Schools system, which has helped him get into several colleges and eventually to his current job with the federal government. Therefore, he said he feels strongly about the education system and decided to run for elected office.

York district candidate Carla Hook said she is also a product of the local school system, having graduated from Gloucester High School in 1988. She believes strongly in the portion of Virginia’s Constitution which states supervision of schools should be invested in a school board.
