Gloucester school board adopts amended budget

The Gloucester School Board adopted a $57,143,687 operating budget for fiscal year 2018 by a 5-1 vote after making final cuts during a work session last Thursday at the T.C. Walker Education Center. 

Board member Troy Andersen opposed the budget adoption and board chairman Charles Records was absent from the meeting. 

The FY2018 budget is up $1,254,334 over the current operating budget of $55,889,353. The county will provide $610,034 of the increase, the state allocation increased by $532,323 and the remainder represents a slight increase in federal funding.

The approved budget provides a step adjustment on the teacher pay scale only, providing pay increases of between ½ and 2 percent, depending on where teachers are on the scale. It also reduces a proposed additional employee contribution to health insurance from $13 to $7 per month.
