Gloucester School Board adds December make-up day

The Gloucester County School Board added a make-up day for students in December to compensate for the loss of five instructional days last month. The board took the action during its Nov. 13 meeting at the T.C. Walker Education Center. 

Dec. 19 was previously scheduled to be an early dismissal day just before the winter break. Now, students will attend a full day of school on Dec. 19 and have early dismissals on Dec. 20.

The early dismissal times are 12:30 p.m. for Gloucester High School, 12:20 p.m. for both middle schools and 1:30 p.m. for elementary schools.

In other business, the board agreed to send a letter of support to Hampton University regarding its effort to secure grant funding for the preservation of the home of Thomas C. Walker on Main Street. 

“The legacy as well as the contributions of Mr. Walker are immense and need to remain alive not only in Gloucester County, but be known throughout the entire world,” the letter stated.
