Gloucester Ruritans

Anna Rhodes was the guest speaker for the June meeting of the Gloucester Ruritan Club. A graduate of the College of William and Mary and now a senior staff archaeologist for the Fairfield Foundation, Rhodes spoke about the Fairfield Plantation: its original owner (Lewis Burwell), the structure and burning of the building, the excavation of the site since 2001, as well as the foundation’s work with school groups and future plans. The Fairfield Foundation headquarters is in the old Texaco building on Gloucester’s Main Street. In top photo, club president Lou Serio presents Rhodes with a Gloucester Ruritan Club mug in appreciation for her presentation. Below, Serio presented Jackie Beyea the Ruritan National Outstanding President’s Award for 2019.
