Gloucester Rowing, the booster club for the Gloucester High School crew, competed at the Head of the Lafayette in Norfolk on Oct. 30. The Head of the Lafayette is a 5,000-meter head race on the Lafayette River. With all of the Gloucester boats consisting of novice rowers and the first regatta for the new team, the local rowers that knew a win or place would be challenging but that didn’t stop the squad’s novice men’s 8+ from placing first, followed by a third-place finish for the novice men’s 4+ and a fourth place for the novice women’s 4+, quite an accomplishment for a crew made up mostly of middle school rowers. The team is looking forward to scholastic competition this spring and excited about the potential GHS crew will have in the coming seasons. Those taking part included, front row from left, Kaden White, Landon Updike, Abigail Thomas, Brecken O’Hare, Gracie Setterholm, coach Zach Moore; second row, Cameron Ahrens, Zachary Hudson, Mason Dominguez, Joshua Littlefield; third row, Graisen Abelar, River Lux, Cooper White, Robert West, Aiden Conklin, Jack Gibson; back row, Ezra Ward, Carter Blankenship, Danielle LaCosa, Phelen Conklin, Willis Redding, Triston Buswell; not pictured, Jacob Gross.
