Gloucester High School rowers brought three gold medals home from the Al Urquia Regatta at Occoquan on Saturday. The novice eight of Jacob Cheatham, Joel Kidd, Adam Hedrick, Jeremy Frush, Steven Gingues, Jake Tolefson, T.J. Steele, T.J. Priddy and coxswain Nick Booth won their race in 5.55.2.
Also winning gold was the number one state-ranked junior four of Cheatham, Kidd, Hedrick, Frush and coxswain Kyle Mielnick, who finished five seconds ahead of the competition with a time of 6.00.9. Rowing in the single’s race, Chris Smith earned a silver medal with a time of 7.47.7 ahead of Sidwell Friends.
Producing a surprise silver medal time, the first four of Logan Hutson, David Collins, Chris Boehm, Kenning Giddings and coxswain John Hogge, was third in its heat in 6.13.7 behind Mathews and Wilson, but posted a finals time of 5.57.4 to get second place behind Woodbridge and ahead of Mathews for the first time.
