Gloucester rowers open spring season

Gloucester High School rowers opened the spring season Saturday with the Eastern Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association’s regatta on Lake Whitehurst at Norfolk Botanical Gardens.

The GHS varsity four of Logan Hutson, Jacob Cheatham, James Lane, Chris Smith and coxswain Chase Holland took first place in 4:56.9. The other Gloucester varsity four entry was 10th in its race. The second varsity four of Russell Simpson, Roy Adams, Chris Garrett and Aaron Parr with Holland at coxswain placed second in 5:17.5.

The varsity eight of John Poole, John Lingenfelser, Cheatham, Zach Moore, Adam Hedrick, Lane, Smith and Hutson, with Meagan Martin at coxswain, placed third in 4:34.1. The men’s novice four placed seventh overall.
