Bay Country Kayaking is a new guided kayak tour business based in Gloucester.

Alan Alexander and his daughter, Shannon, run a mobile service, currently offering guided kayak tours from John’s Point, Ware House Landing, Poropotank River, Dragon Run Swamp, Big Island, and New Point Comfort. They plan to add kayak tours in the Williamsburg area soon.

"These are eco-tours," Shannon said. As a kayak instructor certified by the American Canoe Association, she—along with her father—educate kayakers about local flora and fauna, as well as interesting historic and cultural facts.

The Alexanders have a fleet of 16 kayaks, some singles and some tandems. All kayakers in the group must wear a personal flotation device.

Depending on the tour location, the Alexanders may paddle for a while, then come ashore to view something of interest, and then go back out on the water. Alan said they cannot always go out to New Point Comfort because of strong winds.
