A single-vehicle crash on Sunday in Gloucester resulted in a fatality, according to the Virginia State Police.

Police were called to the scene of the accident on Glass Road, west of Carr Lane. The driver of a 2018 Ford Fusion, identified as Aidan Carter-Lewis, 22, of the 8900 block of Glass Road, was traveling eastbound on Glass Road when he lost control of the vehicle, ran off the roadway and struck the ditch line before striking a tree and overturning. The crash occurred at 7:44 p.m., according to Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the State Police.

Carter-Lewis was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, with life-threatening injuries. On Monday, Carter-Lewis succumbed to his injuries, Anaya said. Notification was made to next of kin.
